Personal Care Products Drive on Thursday May 23rd Highlights Community Action Month

The national office of the Community Action Partnership designates May as National Community Action Month to recognize Community Action Agencies’ work fighting poverty on the local level. Each year, Community Action Agencies help 20 million Americans achieve financial stability through programs such as Dress for Success, Weatherization, RSVP, job training and placement, financial education, housing, energy assistance, and transportation. Here in Dutchess County, through its offices in Poughkeepsie, Red Hook, Beacon and Dover Plains, the local CAP agency served nearly 6,000 residents last year, with the majority falling below the poverty line.
One often overlooked unmet need for people living in poverty can be the availability of personal products. To help address this need for our clients, Dutchess County Community Action Partnership is running a personal products drive in conjunction with Fidelis Care on Thursday May 23rd from 10 AM- 2PM at the Stop and Shop supermarket in Rhinebeck. Donations will also be accepted at any of the four Community Action offices in the county at 77 Cannon St. in Poughkeepsie, 44-46 East Market Street in Red Hook, 34114 Route 22 in Dover Plains, and 554 Main St. in Beacon.
The type of items to be collected will include toothbrushes, toothpaste, hair brushes and combs, shampoo, soap, toilet paper, paper towels and other similar products. As always, we are happy to collect shelf-stable food products as well, for distribution in our food pantries. Each year the DCCAP food pantries serve over 1,200 Dutchess County households.
Dutchess County Community Action Partnership is the official anti-poverty agency of Dutchess County and has been serving the community for over 45 years. With four Community and Family Development centers, the Agency offers a diverse array of services to county in the interest of empowering our clients and promoting greater economic self-reliance. Our dedicated Client Advocates help hundreds of families navigate economic challenges including access to our food panty, prescription assistance and home heating fuel. Our Weatherization program can retrofit eligible homes to save money on energy costs, and our RSVP program engages Seniors in community involvement. Our EITC program offers free income tax preparation and our Dress for Success program is here to help women who are attempting to re-enter the workforce. At Community Action, we believe that all people and families have strengths and assets, and the community as whole is healthiest when we all work together to help recognize and maximize those strengths. If you or someone you know might be able to benefit from any of our services, please contact our offices at (845) 452-5104, or find us on the web at www.dutchesscap.org.
