CAP Programs

Employment Assistance: Community Action Partnership for Dutchess County helps families achieve self-sufficiency through total "wrap-around services". We help individuals enter the workforce by assisting in resume writing, employment searches, and practice interview skills. All services and activities are done in a dignified manner through strength-based approach programs and services within CAP. Bi-Lingual Translators: Spanish translators are available to help assist you in communicating your needs for getting services for you and your family. If one is not available at the site closest to your location, we can make arrangements to have one available to you at the time of your scheduled appointment. Energy Savings: Our Weatherization program helps homeowners and tenants in Multi-Unit housing get the services they need to help minimize the cost of energy and help save you money. Food Pantries:  Community Action Partnership for Dutchess County has food pantries in Beacon, Dover Plains, Red Hook, and Poughkeepsie, NY to help feed you and your family at no cost to you. We do recommend that you speak to or make an appointment with our client advocates to help with family development planning. Emergency Fuel: Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) and Energy Crisis Intervention Program (ECIP) can help low-income families with temporary emergency fuel, regardless of the type of heating you use to heat your home. There are income eligibility requirements to receive this type of assistance. Please call our main line at 845-452-5104 or e-mail us at info@dutchesscap.org to find out if you are eligible.

Energy Fuel After Hour Hotline: If you need emergency fuel after 4 pm, please call 845-437-0050. You will be asked what part of Dutchess County you live in and they will provide you with the nearest gas station that distributes fuel. Operators will inform you of the documentation to bring. To learn more about how this program works, and how much fuel you are allowed to receive call our main office at 845-452-5104 ext 183.

Health Insurance: Community Action Partnership for Dutchess County helps you get the health coverage you need for you and your family. We have reps from different health providers at all our site locations to help you sign up for health insurance. The days and times at the sites are different. Prescription Assistance:  Community Action Partnership for Dutchess County receives funds from different funders to help individuals/families get the prescriptions they need. For a list of these funder's please go to our website at www.dutchesscap.org and click on the link on the About Us page and you will see the funders. Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC): Community Action Partnership for Dutchess County is a member of the Hudson Valley CASH Coalition and partners with the AARP Foundation Tax-Aide program.  Volunteer tax preparers are available at our Family Development Centers as well as several additional locations throughout the Hudson Valley to assist low to moderate-income people file their tax returns. 

During the filing season, this free service is available by appointment only.  Appointments can be made by calling the United Way’s information and referral line, 211. A call specialist will review program eligibility, make an appointment and review the required documents. Dress for Success Dutchess County: Dress for Success Dutchess County provides interviews and employment appropriate clothing to disadvantaged women. Our mission is to help women acquire jobs, retain new position and succeed in the mainstream workplace. • Work on job searches at our Career Center • Make that lasting first impression and stand out from the crowd • Support each other at our monthly meetings of the Professional Women’s Group • Volunteer as a personal shopper or assist newly hired women to succeed in the workplace by becoming a mentor in the Professional Women’s Group. Suited to Succeed: Dutchess County Community Action Suited to Succeed program provides interview attire to men in need of professional clothing. Men’s business suits are available free of charge. Sizes may vary depending upon availability. Contact Dutchess County Community Action Suited to Succeed Program at 452-5104 Ext 122.

Volunteer Opportunities: We here at Community Action Partnership for Dutchess County welcome individuals, groups and organizations who would like to volunteer. We have several programs that you might find interesting. If you need to do community service, we offer you help at all our site locations.
